Snacking has been the downfall of many a diet. It’s something you just can’t avoid. You get hungry in that long stretch between lunch and dinner, and find yourself unable to focus or think clearly. You know you have to put something on your stomach.

The act of snacking itself is not so bad. But it’s what you choose to snack on that makes all the difference. Eating fruit as a snack is the easiest way to curb a sweet tooth, take care of those hunger pains and leave you satisfied, all without sabotaging your diet.

The USDA recommends that both men and women eat at least one and a half to two cups of fruit each day. By making fruit your snack choice, you can make sure you get the daily recommendation and still keep your diet on track.

A fruit salad is a great way to take in vitamins and minerals, and to even get your one to two cups of fruit in a single serving. Not the fruit salad type? Try dipping some seedless grapes into Greek yogurt.

The possibilities for fruit snack combinations are seemingly endless. Are you the type of person who loves to crunch and snack on chips? Replace those unhealthy potato chips with dried fruit like bananas and strawberries. You still get your satisfying crunch without all the unnecessary fat and calories that come with potato chips.

Are you a fan of the salty and sweet combination? Apple slices and different cheeses are a great way to feel full, without giving in to unhealthy things like chocolate covered pretzels. Red apple slices and cheddar is a popular choice as are green apples and Muenster cheese.

No matter what type of fruit you snack on, it’s good for you. Be it a handful of grapes in the car on your commute to work, or strawberries and yogurt as an after dinner treat, you are helping your body get the vitamins, minerals and nutrients that it needs to survive and be healthy. More than that, you’re taking care of those snack cravings without ruining your diet!
